Mobile Future: South Korea to mobile banking

The Nytimes.com analysis on the future of mobile in South Korea reveals mobile banking to kick off by storm. The country is seen to having the widespread appeal of ‘all things mobile’ — from playing games and listening to music, Koreans use their phones as subway pass, to pay for virtual and digital products, as an e-reader for books and comics, etc.

With South Korean carriers and tech companies pushing on mobile payments and T-money now used in transportation, convenience stores, online shopping malls, and taxi, carriers and banks in the country become very optimistic about the future of mobile banking. Read more

Asia Pacific leads mobile marketing and advertising, ABI Research

A recent report from ABI Research reveals the Asia Pacific region to lead the world in mobile marketing and advertising with global mobile marketing spending expected to reach more than $16 billion in 2011.

Report reveals 10% increase on mobile advertising awareness

From US mobile phone users alone, 38% recalls seeing mobile ads via SMS at the first quarter of 2009. On other hand, 59% reveals Smartphone (such as iPhones) users seeing ads with mobile web advertising on top list, according to a report released by Brightkite-GfK Quarterly Report.

The increased breadth of mobile advertising reveals the most striking finding of the report with 23% Smartphone users recalls SMS advertising, 20% saw ads in social networks, and 15% from mobile TV/video. Report also reveals location-based network’s growth almost tripled to 15%. Read more

China Mobile Planning to spend $4.6 billion on 3G

Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) extends Local Council in Asia Pacific

The MMA Asia Pacific is launched in India with an ultimate mission of building a sustainable ecosystem for the mobile marketing industry in the region and leading a region-wide consultation on key industry issues such as mobile advertising guidelines, measurement and metrics, codes of conduct and best practices.

The council is reported to bring together the entire mobile ecosystem composed of carriers, application developers, brands, agencies, and other industry influencers. Read more…

Scanbuy, TMS partnered mobile campaign content won an award

A mobile campaign content partnered by Scanbuy and TMS grabbed an award in a recent MediaPost’s Digital Out of Home Awards.

The Mobile Barcode and the Interactive Neighborhood campaign took the winning slot in the Best Integration with a Mobile Device category.

In April and May of last year, Scanbuy and TMS joined forces in creating a mobile campaign content in the US using mobile barcodes to provide people the immediate access to restaurant reviews, news, weather, and landmark audio tours via mobile phones.


Mobile barcodes were distributed using outdoor media tactics such as bus shelters and kiosks, wild postings and static clings, and street teams with flyers and ads.

The campaign resulted to hundreds of codes distributed all over the city and more than three thousand people who used ScanLife to interact with the outdoor media. Read more


Mobile Marketing in Asia Pacific at rapid growth, MMF Asia

Mobile internet traffic was at hot seat during the first Mobile Marketing Forum Asia (MMF) held in Singapore. In a report from The Standard, more than 300 mobile industry executives joined the event, deliberating the current and future trend of mobile marketing in the region.

In Asia Pacific alone, it is reported that mobile subscribers will reach 3 billion with average penetration rates 20 times higher than Internet connectivity in many countries. Read more

NZ Stocks: Telecom gain limits market losses

The New Zealand share market tumbled in early trading after heavy falls in overseas markets, but a solid performance from top stock Telecom limited further losses.

NZ Telecom helped bolster the index gaining 2%. The country’s telecom, which closed up 5c at 255, has range-traded current levels since mid-February, and remained some favour as an income stock according to a statement from Forsyth Barr’s Suzanne Kinnaird. Read article here
